2017 May Neighbourhood Watch

By Alan Ayckbourn
23rd – 27th May 2017
Director Tony Parker

Respectable, churchgoing brother and sister Martin and Hilda Massie have just moved to the Bluebell Hill Development, a nice middle-class area situated next to a run-down estate. As they are preparing for a housewarming gathering, their peace is shattered by a young trespasser in their garden. The Massies’ neighbours gather in their living room and together agree to form a Neighbourhood Watch group to guard against further unpleasant incidents. But when the Massies’ beloved garden gnome Monty is thrown through their window, matters swiftly escalate…

This hilarious play shows Ayckbourn at the height of his comic powers, highlighting the disastrous consequences of leaving law and order to volunteer vigilantes, who are prone to fits of sibling jealousy, uncontrollable lust and explosive violence.
