Theatre Royal’s Youth Theatre, Second Star, was established in October 2014 by Millie Hardy Sims. It started with a play that saw the culmination of a week’s worth of work as part of a half term project, The Lost Boy. Second Star steadily grew from this and now has an established place in the Playgoers season with regular performances designed for families, Playgoers members and the general public.

In the summer of 2017, Millie went away to university, and Playgoers established a Youth Council made up of older members of Second Star to look after the management of the group. The current member of the Youth Council are Georgia Douglas-Brown, Amy Clark, Heather Palmer and Sophie Mackenzie. Alongside the Youth Council there is someone overseeing all youth activities for Playgoers, Youth Theatre Facilitator, Paul Adams; a Youth Leader, Kira Pearson, supervises the Second Star activities.

Second Star is designed for young people from 8-18 to learn the discipline in all the elements required for stage craft (both onstage and off), to learn to work as a team, as well as character development, confidence building, to make friends along the way and have fun!

We always welcome any new young people whether your interest lies with acting or the backstage elements of theatre. Unlike many Youth Theatre groups we have our own lovely theatre – so why not get in touch?
