Following the advice given today (16th March 2020) by the Prime Minister, Workington Playgoers has decided it has no alternative but to close our theatre until further notice, in order to avoid contributing to the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus). We do not believe that it is practical or responsible for us to stage shows while people’s health is at serious risk.
This means the performances of ‘Di and Viv and Rose’ which were due to start on 17th March and end on 21st March will now not take place. In addition, all other events to be held at the Theatre Royal (including guest shows and dance festivals) are cancelled until further notice.

We are determined to survive, and to get our shows back on track as soon as possible. Please check our website and Facebook page for regular updates.

UPDATE (20th April 2020)
At this point, we are still unsure when we will be able to reopen our theatre. We will continue to follow government advice on this.
When we reopen, we hope to put on ‘Di and Viv and Rose’ (Playgoers), followed by a Theatre Royal Youth Showcase and then ‘Blackadder 3’ (Playgoers). Dates for these productions will be announced in due course.
